Healthy Eyelashes With Coconut Oil

Beautiful Eyelashes Natures Way Coconut Oil
Brittle eyelashes break. Imagine looking in the mirror and seeing a section of your lashes missing! At this point, all you can do is treat the lashes nourishing and protecting what is there.
I have had this experience a few times. My biggest surprise came after I began using coconut oil on my eyelashes. My eyelashes flourished.
Then I ran out of this oil. Within 3 weeks, my eyelashes broke off. I kid you not. I was devastated! The same section that tends to break. Lesson learned, this natural oil is great for my eyelashes.
UGH! Now I know this oil nourishes eyelashes. After getting more coconut oil, I appied it not only to my eyelashes but my face and neck.
A month later, the eyelashes are back and looking very healthy! I will never again go without coconut oil and the daily application to my eyelashes and face.
Generally, it can take 4-6 months for eyelashes to grow back. This natural oil will expedite eyelash regrowth and prevent breakage. It did for me.
You can spend $50 or more on eyelash treatments. These contain ingredients we dont want on our lashes. I tried one, before I discovered coconut oil. It was $69 and a month later it burned my eyelids.
This natural oil does not burn, it soaks in and penetrates the follicles, bringing your eyelashes back to a healthy condition. They may even grow longer!
How does this happen?
Many things can cause eyelashes to become brittle. Hormonal changes(menopause)is a big one.
Other factors include
  • Mascara
  • False eyelashes
  • Not removing makeup every day
  • Poor diet
  • commercial make up removers
  • Thyroid conditions
Preventing Brittle and Broken Eyelashes
Mascara contains tar, this smothers the lashes, causing brittleness. Remove every day, better yet, dont use commercial mascara. Organic mascara would be a better choice.
Eat a healthy balanced diet. Food nourishes our bodies, this includes hair, eyelashes and nails. Consider adding the oil to your diet, as a supplement and topical application.
If you suspect a thyroid condition, it is best to seek medical advice. Still, coconut oil can help. Medical advice is helpful to rule out any serious medical condition.

Desserts With Coffee

My favorite part of a meal, is of course dessert! My husband and I love entertaining, and when we do we try to make dessert the most spectacular part of the meal. We always strive to serve something sweet and decadent that goes well with a delicious cup of gourmet coffee, such as Jamaican Blue Mountain or Kona coffee. This is actually quite simple to do as many desserts are meant to be served with an after dinner cup of gourmet coffee.
Let me start by saying my all time favorite dessert, with or without coffee, and that would be Tiramisu. Tiramisu is an Italian cake dessert that is literally translated to me "pick me up" or "make me happy". This dessert will definitely make anyone happy as it incorporates ladyfingers dipped in coffee, layered with a whipped mixture of egg yolks and mascarpone, and flavored with liquor and cocoa. It truly is the perfect pick up after a meal, and even though it is a very decadent dessert, the coffee in it truly does pick you up a bit. I like to serve the Tiramisu with the same type of coffee that was used in the recipe. This makes for a cohesive dessert that is amazing from start to finish!
Another idea for a great dessert that is perfect with a cup of gourmet coffee, would be a rich chocolate mousse. Chocolate desserts really do shine when a bit of coffee is added to them, and the light fluffy texture of the mousse is a perfect ending to a stellar meal. When making a mousse, think about adding a touch of coffee to the recipe. The subtle flavors of it will bring out the natural flavors of the chocolate and the result is a truly rich and wonderful dessert!
One might say the most obvious dessert that goes with coffee, is of course coffee cake. Personally, I am not a big fan of this dessert unless it is made a little different. The best coffee cake recipes I have tried are blueberry crumble coffee cake, and a raspberry cream cheese pastry coffee cake. These were different spins on the typical coffee cake, and seemed to be so much richer and more delicious! Other great dessert ideas would include: cobblers, cakes, cookie bars, biscotti and cheese cake!

The History of Kopi Luwak

The History of Kopi Luwak
Primarily produced on the Indonesian Islands of Bali, Java, and Sumatra, Kopi Luwak is closely linked to the history of Indonesian coffee production. In the early 1700s, the Dutch established coffee plantations in their colonies on the islands of Java and Sumatra. Prized for its value in exports to Europe, the local farmers of the colonies were not allowed to drink the coffee they harvested. Eventually the farmers realized that the droppings of the Civets contained undigested beans that could be cleaned, roasted, and brewed into their own coffee drink. Word soon spread, and demand for this version of the local coffee grew, which commanded a high price even in those times.
Research and Imitation
Much research has been done on this rarest of coffees. Foremost perhaps is a study that determined the way the Civet's digestive system affects the beans and their eventual flavor. More recently, studies have been completed that have identified ways to imitate the process that the coffee beans endure while passing through the digestive system of the Civet. These studies have led to the processing and production of some coffees that claim to maintain the same flavor of the Kopi Luwak at a price closer to that of ordinary coffee. While some farms cage the civets to produce this rare coffee, the University of Florida has developed a method that does not involve any animals at all.
Kopi Luwak is certainly a delicacy and perhaps the rarest drink in the world. For some, the whole idea is a turn off; for others, like Jack Nicholson's character in the movie by the same name, experiencing this rarity is on their bucket list.

The Next of the Cruise Holiday

Huge luxury cruise liners, lavish yachts and speed boats that will blow your socks off, the boating industry is becoming hip and cool again. Now anyone who's anyone can be snapped taking a luxury holiday on a huge yacht somewhere. The cruise industry is also a holiday option which more and more people are deciding to take. It's an alternative to the run of the mill beach resort or city break.
Traditionally cruises have been associated with retirees wanting to take a luxury voyage and enjoy the serene beauty of the open sea. Now the industry is trying to change that image and attract a broader clientele. P & O Ferries and Crystal Cruises are pushing the boat out and introducing new technology, new entertainment and a new approach which is attracting a younger crowd to the luxury cruise market.
Today few working couples or families have time to take long cruises so many companies are offering shorter trips of 4 to 7 nights, particularly around the Mediterranean. With a younger demographic comes the demand for new destinations. New York has become very popular with 18-34 year olds. The lights of the 'Big Apple' and ample shopping and fine dining make it an attractive port for cruises.
As time progresses so does technology and the cruise industry is not being left behind. Some new cruise liners have artificial surf pools and even iLounges so people can use iPads and Macs in comfort. Not only this, leading companies in the industry are also installing glass bottom walkways, huge water slides and special sea viewing platforms to provide some exhilarating views of the ocean.
For most people the quarters of a cruise are cramped and less than satisfying but this is changing with large cruise ships becoming much better at utilising space without sacrificing comfort. You can expect similar comfort to a luxury hotel with a choice of various size cabins and suites. Some of the suites even have a personal concierge and butler service.
Today's economy is not exactly all plain sailing there is a lot of uncertainty. But that is not stopping holiday makers taking cruises, some are opting for shorter breaks particularly the younger crowd. The weekend cruise for city slickers is a popular choice. It's a good way for people to sample a cruise and see if they like it. In the UK a few short cruises depart from Southampton and take a trip to Guernsey for a delightful meander to St. Peter Port. The appeal is the avoidance of increasingly annoying airports as your holiday effectively starts as soon as you board the ship. Life on a ship is set to a different pace. Although you can enjoy exciting entertainment, for those that just want to unwind and enjoy a relaxing break taking in the clean sea air there is no better option.
The luxury cruise industry is changing its image for the better and with new destinations and attractions that rival even the best resorts the cruise holiday is certainly here to stay.

History of Amsterdam's Canals

Amsterdam is also known as the Venice of the North for the numerous canals, bridges and islands it has. The three major canals in the city are Keizersgracht, Herengracht and Prinsengracht. They were created in the Dutch Golden Age in the 17th century. The canals make up concentric semi-circular belts that go around Amsterdam. The belts are also known as grachtengordel. More than 1,500 monumental buildings are situated along the main canals. The 19th century canals are on the World Heritage List of UNESCO.
History of Amsterdam's Canals:
The canals in Amsterdam form a system that has allowed the city to carry out trade and defend itself quite successfully in the past. This is a result of careful city planning in the 17th century. During that time, immigration was at its peak and there was a need for a comprehensive plan for canal development. Grachtengordel canals were created to facilitate effective city development, especially in the residential areas. An outer canal called Singelgracht was then made for water management and defense purposes. If you take a boat tour of Amsterdam you will be able to see it for yourself.
In the plan, provisions were made to include canals that would connect the main ones along the radii. It also comprised of a number of parallel canals, a canal along the inner perimeter and over 100 bridges. Work on them started in the west and proceeded to the east. Construction of the north-west structure began in 1613 and went on till 1625. The southern sector of the canals was started only in 1664, and work on it went slowly, owing to economic depression.
Some of the Widely Recognized Canals in the Belt:
Keizergracht: The canal is also known as the Emperor's Canal. It is the widest of the Grachtengordel canals and is the second among them. The canal was named after the Holy Roman Emperor Maxmilian I.
Singel: Amsterdam (during medieval times), was encircled by Singel. Between 1480 and 1585, it functioned as a moat. After 1585, Amsterdam grew beyond the borders of Singel. The canal begins at IJ bay and extends till Muntplein square. Singel touches Amstel River at this point. The canal is currently the inner-most in the semi-circular belt of the canals in Amsterdam. It is different from the Singelgracht canal which formed the outer city limit in the 17th century.
Prinsengracht: Also known as the Prince's Canal, Prinsengracht is the longest canal in the city. It is also the outermost (fourth) canal in the system. The canal derives its name from the Prince of Orange. The majority of the houses along the canal were developed in the Dutch Golden Age. Several bridges go over the canals; nevertheless, they do not connect with Jordaan's streets. Some of the interesting places to see along the canal are Anne Frank House, Noordermarkt and Westerkerk. You can board a canal cruise boat to see these sights up close.
Other Impressive Canals in Amsterdam:
Zwanenburgwal: Located in the middle of Amsterdam, Zwanenburgwal is both a street and canal. Two notable personalities lived in this area - Spinzoa, the philosopher and Rembrandt, the painter. The street was voted one of the most beautiful in Amsterdam, in 2006, by the locals. Zwanenburgwal connects the sluice gate of Sint Antoiniessluis and Amstel River. It was originally called Verversgracht, after the textile companies that had established themselves along the canal.
Brouwersgracht: The canal, located in the city center, forms a part of the system of canals connecting the Keizersgracht, Herengracht, Singel and Prinsengracht. The canal forms the belt's northern limit. Brouwersgracht too forms a street that is recognized as one of the most appealing in the city.
Kloveniersburgwal: Running along the southern end of the canal belt is Kloveniersburgwal, which connects Nieuwmarkt and Amstel River. It surrounds the edge of Medieval Amsterdam. In the 17th century, the eastern side of the canal became quite densely populated. Now it is home to some of the grandest mansions in the city. One of the most beautiful is Trippenhuis, which currently contains the KNAW. Kloveniersburgwal was sought after by Dutch East India Company's administrators. This was because it was situated close to the Oude Hoogstraat, the nerve center of the company.
Seranggracht, Lamonggracht, Brantasgracht and Majanggracht: These are the most recent canals to be built in Amsterdam. They were created in 1995 along Java Island, which is man-made. Modern canal houses with traditional interpretations line these canals. The houses were designed by 19 Dutch architects. Nine metal bridges with ornate designs have been developed over the canals to help cyclists and pedestrians cross them with ease.

Alaska Cruises

Alaska cruises are extremely popular, thanks to a landscape that presents breathtaking beauty and natural wonders on a grand scale. The Last Frontier's majestic landscape is perhaps best viewed on Alaska cruises, especially for first-time visitors. When selecting your cruise there are some things you need to consider. These cruises are virtually all 7 days, with a few exceptions. For a more in-depth experience you can choose an Alaska Cruise Tour, which adds a land portion to your cruise. Cruise tours are usually 10 to 12 days long, including the cruise, but there are tours as long as three weeks.
Big ship Alaska cruises are like staying in floating cities. They have casinos, health clubs, movie theaters, restaurants, lounges and plenty of live entertainment. They are quite luxurious. Princess Cruises is one of the major players in the Alaska cruise industry. They have four cruise ships that service Alaska. They are the Coral Princess, Diamond Princess, Island Princess and Sapphire Princess. Holland America cruises tend to appeal to older travelers. Their ships have a traditional feel with service to match. Their Alaska ships are the Ryndam, the Statendam and the Veendam. Several other major cruise lines service Alaska. They include Carnival Cruises, Celebrity Cruises and Royal Caribbean Cruise Line.
Small Ship Alaska Cruises:
If you would like a more intimate cruise experience, consider a small ship. Many small cruise lines focus on special interests like bird watching or glaciers. Scientists often accompany the cruises to put the sights into perspective. Small ships can get to places that the big ships can't go. They also have a lot more flexibility with their schedule. Small ship captains will often ask their passengers what they want to see or where they want to go. Small ships cruises can cost more than the big ships. They also have fewer comforts and amenities. However, if you care more about getting up close and personal with the nature of Alaska than you do about being pampered, then small ship cruises may be for you.
Princess cruises offer a panoramic perspective of the wonders of nature. Monumental glaciers are nature's draw and Alaska's waterways reveal more of these thrilling Ice Age giants than anywhere else on earth. Alaska's Inside Passage is one of the most scenic sea-lanes in the world, home to bald eagles, whales, sea lions, otters, brown bears, mountain goats and flocks of seabirds. Plus you'll visit a variety of flavorful ports of call full of rich history and native culture.
Holland America Cruises allow you to watch whales breach and eagles soar as you spend a whole day in Glacier Bay National Park. You travel through Alaska's sublime beauty and frontier ports in unsurpassed luxury and comfort. On Holland America Line's spectacular 7-day Alaska cruise vacations you get a greater selection of Alaska cruise itineraries than any other cruise line. Holland America is the only cruise line to offer Glacier Bay National Park on all three major cruise itineraries. And their spacious, mid-size ships carry fewer guests ensuring quiet corners and unfettered views.
When To Go On Alaska Cruises:
The most popular time to go on Alaska cruises is June, July and August. This is when the weather is warmest in Alaska. Expect to pay the most for cruises during this time. May and September are the shoulder season. The weather is less predictable but the Gulf of Alaska is still accessible to big cruise ships. You can get better prices during the shoulder season. A few small cruise ships sail in April. It can still be very cold during April and the beginning of May. Consider this when you book your cruise.

What to Know Before Starting SEO

Search engine optimization, or SEO, is an important part of your web success. Since it's always easier to get things right the first time, it's important to know as much as you can about SEO before implementing it. This article will give you what you need to know for SEO and how to create an effective plan.
SEO is an integral part of your website. Rather than trying to optimize a finished website, keep SEO in mind before you start building your site. Meta and title tags can be added when you first build your site if you've already got a SEO plan ready. By integrating SEO as you design your website, you'll be creating a better product and avoid headaches in the future.
What are you trying to accomplish? Make sure you know who your target visitors are and how you plan to reach them. Just as you wouldn't start your business without goals, make sure you set goals for your SEO. Knowing what your plan is will help you develop a SEO plan that gives your website the highest ranking and keeps it there.
Improving your website and maximizing search engine optimization isn't a one time thing. Many of the strategies for SEO involve frequent, consistent work, such as maintaining a blog and creating unique pages. Also, if your hits aren't going up, take time to figure out why. Are your keywords what you'd expect your visitors to type into a search engine? Do your meta tags give an interesting, accurate summary of each of your pages? Give yourself some time each day to make sure you're using the best title tags or enhancing your site's content.
It's not enough to have something unique; your content also needs to be of the best quality. Good quality will keep visitors clicking on your links. The more clicks, the higher you'll appear on search engine rankings. Certain keyword and coding tricks may get visitors to your site, but good SEO means giving your visitors a reason to visit. Redundant pages or paragraphs can ultimately hurt your SEO, even if those repeats are full of important keywords. By providing high quality, unique content, you'll be in a better position to get more and more traffic.
When utilizing your SEO strategies make sure your site is well designed and easy to use. Navigational links at the bottom of each page can be a way to not only improve your SEO, but also make it easier for visitors to get around.
Don't forget about your URL. Choosing a short, precise URL will help you gain hits and improve your search engine rankings. No matter how tempting it might be, loading your URL with keywords is only going to hurt you in the long run. It's always better to keep it simple.
SEO can seem difficult, but it's possible to gain more traffic (and more paying customers) if you have a good plan. Reading this article was just the first step. Use these tips, and you'll be able to create a great SEO plan for your site and for your business!

The Asthmatic Patient And Smoking

We have all probably heard at least once from different information sources that smoking cigarettes and tobacco are harmful to one's health. These products contain hundreds of destructive chemicals which are detrimental; not only to the smoker, but to those who get to inhale the smoke coming from the cigarettes or tobacco they puff. One of the illnesses that can be acquired by smoking is asthma. But what if the actual asthmatic patient is the one who smokes excessively? How can this person possibly be saved from future health complications? Before we discuss the solution, it will be worthwhile to note some background information about smoking and the asthmatic patient.
Smoking
The practice of smoking dates back centuries ago, when the ancient civilizations and societies used and burnt incense as a way of praising their gods. What started as a purely religious practice eventually evolved as a way of gratifying and satisfying oneself by inhaling the smoke coming from products like cigarettes and tobacco. Smoking is apparently very pleasurable as these cigarettes or tobacco contain nicotine, a substance that is known to stimulate the brain, giving the smoker intense enjoyment and fulfillment.
Despite all the pleasures that smoking gives, it is still very harmful to the body especially for second-hand smokers or the people who inhale the smoke which is exhaled by the actual smokers. It can cause lung cancer, cardiovascular diseases, kidney failure or even something as simple as the common cough. Thus, this practice must immediately be halted.
Asthma 101
Asthma is a respiratory disorder that causes the patient to have difficulty in breathing due to inflammation of the airways. Asthmatics often experience different extremely uncomfortable conditions like wheezing, chest tightening, shortness of breath, and intense coughing. Some asthmatics even have side effects like skin allergies which develop on varying degrees. Asthma is a sickness that must be treated and dealt with seriously as this can be a cause of potential death.
Smoking can trigger asthma attacks. The smoke coming from cigarettes and tobacco can irritate the muscles of the airways, causing it to become rigid and tensed. When this happens, the passage of air is impeded and the asthmatic experiences difficulty in breathing, which leads to major or minor asthma attacks.
The Verdict
It is therefore advisable for asthmatics to avoid inhaling smoke coming from cigarettes and for asthmatics who smoke to quit smoking altogether. They may think they can handle cigarette or tobacco smoke but the truth is that they're running the risk of worsening their asthmatic condition. They are highly likely to develop severe respiratory problems at a young age. Aside from that, their appearance, overall body stamina, and immune system will be affected causing them to be sicklier and appear older than they truly are.
So if you're an asthmatic smoker, you better stop smoking immediately. Start taking simple but sure steps that will help you to quit smoking altogether. Ask your doctor's help. Do this for your own good and that of others.

Tips To Help You Achieve Your Ideal Fitness Goals

You have just signed up for that super platinum gym membership... or not, but you have decided to start your workout regimen to lose some weight and get healthier for 2012. Every year, we all become well-meaning and go about making resolutions that are destined for failure because we do not have a plan of attack. Here are 5 tips which may be just what the doctor ordered to help you in your quest to lose weight.
1. To begin with, you have to set realistic weight loss goals, both short and long term. The ideal fitness goals for you must be attainable, especially in the short term to create some successes which will motivate you for the longer term goals.
Remember that you did not gain weight overnight, so don't expect lose it within a short period. Your body will burn fat at varying rates depending on your metabolism. Some weeks you will lose more than others but over the long haul, you should average about 2 pounds per week.
2. Be specific. How much weight do you want to lose by the end of the year (12 months)? How many pounds (a specific number) do you want to lose? This is your ultimate weight loss goal. How do you get there? Divide your specific number by 12 (12 months) and that's your goal per month. Divide that result by 4 and that's your weekly goal. Now, forget about your 12 month goal and focus on the weekly number that is more manageable.
Question: How do you eat an elephant?
Answer: One bite at a time.
The key is bite-size pieces. Get my drift?
3. It is most important to find a "why" ...the reason you want to lose the weight. It must be your why and nobody else's. You are doing this for you. It's not enough to say that being overweight is an unhealthy condition. That's too clinical. It must be EMOTIONAL and PERSONAL. There is a paradox in that making it personal, may involve other important people in your life, such as a spouse, kids or grand kids. Making it emotional and personal will undoubtedly motivate you to follow through to your stated weight loss goal.
4. You need to write down your goals which should include milestones, which in your case would be weight loss and due dates. If you just keep it in your head, it becomes only a wish. It is also important to post it where you can see it at all times and someone, whom you trust, could be a workout buddy, must know about your goals so you can be accountable to someone other than yourself.
5. Find someone to be accountable to during your quest. This should be someone whom you trust to get you up when you don't feel like working out or call when you feel that you are straying from the planned path. This person will be that little guy on your shoulder reminding you why you are doing what you are doing.
Your good health is the most important gift you can give to yourself and your loved ones. It is, therefore, your responsibility to ensure that you deliver. You will need some help in that regard. It is always easier to follow in the footsteps of someone who has gone before. The Ideal Fitness System is a blueprint you can use to achieve your fitness goals.
Your quest to lose weight should not be too stressful which would be counterproductive because stress does produce the chemical, cortisol which contributes to weight gain around the mid-section. Rather endeavor to make it fun which will encourage you to persevere to the end. Your mantra should be FUN... FUN... and more FUN.

For parents with small children, finding the perfect family vacation destination can be a huge challenge. When friends suggested taking our little ones on the Disney Cruise, we knew we had found the perfect solution to our problem. The cruise was not only a great experience for the kids, but my husband and I had a great time as well.
Just as with any cruise line, the first decision we had to make was where exactly we wanted to go on the cruise. We debated destinations like Hawaii and the Mexican Riviera but we finally decided that The Bahamas would be the best bet for everyone. We stopped in Nassau, Walt Disney World Resort in Port Canaveral, Florida and Castaway Cay, Disney's private island.
All of the ports were beautiful and had amazing activities for the family but Castaway Cay was definitely a highlight for everyone. The island is only open to passengers on the Disney cruise ships, so there were no crowds and there was tons of privacy. There were two great water areas for the kids, as well as a special area for teenagers and even private massage cabanas in an adults only area of the beach.
When we were traveling from port to port, there was no shortage of activities on board. One of the highlights was the live Disney shows, like Toy Story: The Musical. Our kids got to see a Broadway quality show that they would never otherwise have access to and the best part was that it was only an hour long, which was perfect for their little attention spans.
Of course, no Disney vacation experience could have been complete without meeting and greeting the Disney characters. While we were on the ship, there were many scheduled opportunities to meet the kids' favorite characters but they also showed up unexpectedly at many different moments. One of the best parts of the trip was seeing our daughter's face light up when she got to meet her idol, Cinderella, in person.

Juventus opens up 3-point lead over AC Milan

Undefeated Juventus routed 10-man Roma 4-0 on Sunday to open up a three-point lead over AC Milan with just five rounds remaining in Serie A.
Ten-man Milan needed a 90th-minute equalizer from Zlatan Ibrahimovic to salvage a 1-1 draw at home with Bologna.
Meanwhile, the Italian game was once again marred by crowd trouble at Genoa, where supporters caused a 45-minute suspension in their club's 4-1 loss to Siena - during which the players stripped off their shirts in a sign of apology.
Playing in the late match and already aware of Milan's draw, Juventus took cotrol immediately with two early goals from Arturo Vidal in the fourth and eighth minutes.
Roma goalkeeper Maarten Stekelenburg was then sent off for a last-man foul on Claudio Marchisio in the 26th. Andrea Pirlo converted his own rebound from the ensuing penalty to make it 3-0, and Marchisio added the fourth in the 52nd minute.
"Our approach was fundamental. We approached this match like a great squad," Juve manager Antonio Conte said. "This is another step forward, but we know that there are five matches remaining and they're five finals. ... But we control our own destiny now."
Juventus also clinched at least a top-two finish, meaning it has qualified directly for the Champions League - after finishing seventh the past two seasons.
"The club asked me to reach this goal and now it's been realized, but we're not aiming for minimum goals at this point," Conte said.
At the San Siro, Uruguayan forward Gaston Ramirez gave Bologna the lead in the 26th, finishing off a swift counterattack after Milan midfielder Mark van Bommel lost possession.
Milan defender Daniele Bonera picked up his second yellow card in the 82nd and it looked like the Rossoneri were about to slip to their second loss in three matches until Ibrahimovic scored with a close-range volley.
Elsewhere, third-place Lazio allowed a late equalizer in a 1-1 draw with Lecce.
After both sides had hit the crossbar, Brazilian midfielder Francelino Matuzalem scored with a header for Lazio in the 82nd, but Valeri Bojinov drew Lecce level in added time from the center of the area for his first goal since rejoining the southern club on loan from Sporting Lisbon in January.
Lazio held on to the final Champions League spot, but is only three points ahead of Udinese, with Napoli four points back.
Meanwhile, the match in Genoa was interrupted early in the second half when fans threw flares onto the pitch and climbed atop barriers as they were faced by stewards in riot gear.
After the fans calmed down, the match resumed and Cristiano Del Grosso scored an own goal for Genoa in the 79th.
The loss left Genoa one point above the relegation zone.
An Italy-Serbia match in the same stadium last season was stopped in similar circumstances - albeit with Serbian fans causing the violence. There were also massive clashes following the shooting of a Lazio fan by a police officer at a highway rest stop in 2007. And the hard-core "ultra" fans forced the 2004 Rome derby to be suspended after a false rumor spread that a boy had been shot by police outside the stadium.
Earlier, Julio Cesar saved a penalty but Inter Milan came away with only a 0-0 draw at struggling Fiorentina, damaging its dwindling chances of qualifying for the Champions League.
In the 69th minute, Julio Cesar dove to his right to push away a low spot kick from Adem Ljajic after the goalkeeper had tripped Andrea Lazzari.
Also, Palermo drew 2-2 at Cesena.
A minute of silence was held before each match a week after Piermario Morosini's death from cardiac arrest in a Serie B game.

Van Persie scoops Player of Year award in England

Arsenal striker Robin van Persie was rewarded for his stunning goalscoring exploits in the Premier League by being voted the player of the season by his peers on Sunday.
The Netherlands international received the Professional Footballers' Association award after grabbing 27 goals to lead the scoring charts in England's top division with three rounds of fixtures remaining.
"If other people are saying it, it is special, but it is even more special if your opponents are saying it, Van Persie said.
"It is very special because you are playing against them week in, week out and every single player does everything to win and in the end, if they make up their minds that I'm the best player it is a big honor."
Manchester City trio Sergio Aguero, David Silva and Joe Hart, Tottenham midfielder Scott Parker and Manchester United striker Wayne Rooney had also been nominated for the award.
In a rare injury-free season, Van Persie has carried Arsenal on his own at times after the team's poor start to its league campaign, scoring 34 goals in all competitions - a haul that included a mixture of spectacular and crucial goals with his trusty left foot.
Van Persie has scored against 17 of Arsenal's 19 rivals in the league this season, equaling the record of former club great Ian Wright.
Since the departure of Emmanuel Adebayor to Manchester City in 2009, Van Persie has moved from playing as a deep-lying forward to an out-and-out striker, bringing the best out of the former Feyenoord player who has one more season left on his contract at Arsenal.
"To be fair, when I first went there (center forward), I wasn't really as cnfident and I wasn't really sure I could do it," said Van Persie, who replaced Cesc Fabregas as Arsenal captain this season following the midfielder's move to Barcelona last summer. "It took a bit of time but after a couple of months a slowly realized I could do a good job there."
Tottenham right back Kyle alker won the the PFA Young Player of the Year, and joined Van Persie in the Premier League's Team of the Year.
Man City was best represented, with Hart, Vincent Komapny, Silva and Yaya Toure included.

Team of the Year: Joe Hart (Manchester City), Kyle Walker (Tottenham), Vincent Kompany (Mancheser City), Fabricio Coloccini (Newcastle), Leighton Baines (Everton), David Silva (Manchester City), Yaya Toure (Manchester City), Gareth Bale (Tottenham), Scott Parker (Tottenham),
Robin van Persie (Arsenal), Wayne Rooney (Manchester United).
